<b>"Not the sort of thing one would immediately identify with John Zorn, this superb recording was nonetheless issued on his Avant label in 1997. It consists of field recordings made the previous year by Mark Seidenfeld during a funeral procession of the Ewe people in central Ghana, and is a hugely exciting helping of riveting, passionate drum work. There are seven primary drummers accompanied by many villagers on small percussion and occasional vocalizing. While five of the drummers maintain traditional (and usually quite complex) rhythms, the two manning the largest drum are free to improvise, one on the skin, one on its wooden sides. The firestorm these musicians are able to conjure up can be nothing short of incredible, with intricate rhythmic matrices getting subsumed into passionate pounding that explodes orgasmically. The disc leads off with six intense, shorter pieces before concluding with a 23-minute marathon that will leave the listener breathless. The rhythmic and timbral richness in works like this should be required listening for any aficionado of "the beat" -- here is the beat in all its uncluttered, raw splendor. Highly recommended." via Allmusic</b><br />

<b>"Cronenberg's collaboration with
Howard Shore had been responsible to a great degree in bringing the
composer from the anonymity of television and other writing venues into
the motion picture scene, and their work together would continue for
several decades. The two agreed to approach The Fly as though it
were an opera, playing the tragedy very literally and melodramatically
in the tone of the music. The technique would be relatively new in a
genre that had been recently defined by far less traditional (or even
orchestral) sounds, but it would prove to be successful due to the
inherent emphasis on the romance in the story. The sound would also
inform a new generation of film music in the genre, including the work
of Christopher Young, whose score for the idiotic sequel to The
Fly in 1989 would extend the larger-than-life scope of Shore's approach into another generation of fly mutation horror." via Filmtracks</b><br />

<b>"Raga" trumpeter Jon Hassell's The Surgeon of the Nightsky Restores Dead
Things by the Power of Sound utilizes the core ensemble of players
previously heard on Power Spot, but with quite different results.
Surgeon of the Nightsky is considerably more ambient and less
rhythmically animated than its predecessor. Each of the five tracks is
named after a city, a theme Hassell would further explore in the
subsequent City: Works of Fiction. The tracks of Surgeon of the Nightsky
melt seamlessly into one another, forming an unbroken arc that spans
the entire album." via iTunes</b><br />

<b>Outlaw country singer Randy Howard was killed in a shootout with a
bounty hunter at his Tennessee home on Tuesday night (June 9).</b><br />
<br />
<b>
</b><b>According to Nashville’s <a href="http://www.wsmv.com/story/29291068/midstate-musician-shot-to-death-by-bounty-hunter" target="_blank">WSMV</a>,
the 65-year-old musician was facing charges of fourth offense DUI,
possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a gun while intoxicated
and driving on a revoked license in Marion Country, Tenn. at the time of
his death. He had failed to appear at a recent hearing, which resulted
in a bench warrant. When a bounty hunter working for A-Plus Bail Bonding
out of Dunlap, Tenn. showed up at Howard’s home in Lynchburg Tuesday
night, the singer opened fire, according to investigators. The bounty
hunter returned fire, killing the singer at the scene. The bounty
hunter, who has not been named, was also hit, but is expected to make a
full recovery.</b><br />
<br />
<b>
</b><b>Howard was part of the vanguard of the Outlaw Country movement that spawned Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck and more. His released his debut album, <em>Now and Then</em>, in 1976, and would go on to record <em>All American Redneck</em>
for Warner Bros. in 1983, and a self-titled album for Atlantic in 1988,
as well as other recording projects for smaller labels. His profanely
humorous song “All American Redneck” was an underground hit that became
the song most associated with Howard, who shared the stage with Nelson,
Jennings, Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams, Jr. and more during his long career.</b><br />
<br />
<b>
</b><b>The singer’s death has raised new questions about the rights of
bounty hunters. While many states require bondsmen to be licensed,
Tennessee doesn’t. In this instance the bounty hunter had a warrant, and
he claims to have fired in self-defense, but the Tennessee Bureau of
Investigation tells WSMV that Howard was in his own home, where he had
the legal right to defend himself. The TBI is now investigating his
death.</b> via tasteofcountry<br />

<b>"Boyd Rice may well be the only person alive who's been on a first name
basis with both Charlie Manson and Marilyn Manson. His career has
spanned more than three decades, during which time he has remained at
the epicenter of underground culture and controversy. Rice first came to
prominence in the 70's as one of the founders of the genre known as
Industrial Music, and soon gained a reputation for live shows that were
deemed the most abrasive, minamalist and loudest concerts ever staged
(his shows regularly clocked in at 130 decibels, whereas a jet plane
taking off was a mere 113 decibels). As early as 1980, he was already
hailed as The Godfather of Noise Music.
<br />
<br />Since then, Rice has extended his creative pursuits to numerous
fields, even lecturing at The Massachusettes Institute of Technology,
despite being a high-school dropout. "My life", says Rice, "is a
testament to the idea that you can achieve whatever the hell you want if
you posess a modicum of creativity, and a certain amount of naivete
concerning what is and isn't possible in this world. I've had one man
shows of my paintings in New York, but I'm not a painter. I've authored
several books, but I'm not a writer. I've made a living as a recording
artist for the last 30 years, but I can't read a note of music or play
an instrument. I've somehow managed to make a career out of doing a
great number of things I'm in no way qualified to do".
<br />
<br />Larry Wessel's documentary, ICONOCLAST is a <span style="color: red;">4 hour long</span> tour de
force, 6 years in the making; an in depth expose of Boyd Rice's life,
career, and personal obsessions. No mere documentary, ICONOCLAST is more
of a roller coaster ride through the fevered mindscape of one of the
most controversial and unique artists of the modern age." via the DVD back</b><br />

This was directed by György Pálfi (Hukkle, Taxidermia, Free Fall) and it's the first of its kind. This was spliced together from hundreds of classic films to tell a more or less linear story. I've always wanted to do this but it's probably more difficult than I first thought... There is an english subtitle file to use over the hardcoded Hungarian subs but not too many scenes require them. Not sure of the source of this file but it can never be "officially" released due to copyright issues. William S. Burroughs would be proud.</div>

There are a lot of bootleg versions of this around. The official VHS release was severely cut to 2 hours from the original 4 hours. I'm not sure what this version is because it is only 3 hours. I think it was ripped from VHS tapes that contained the show recorded from TV. That was back in 1979 so the quality isn't 1080p. Some of the footage could be sourced from the VHS release but I wouldn't know. If you buy the official VHS and splice it with this rip you could possibly end up with the entire show... Worth a try if you're that bored.<br />

"Based on Harold Pinter's enigmatic play about a border in a British
seaside dwelling who is visited by two strangers. They torment him
verbally, ask him idiotic unanswerable questions, force him to sit down
and stand up, and give him a "party." Then, eventually, they take him
away, a tongue-tied idiot. The trivial becomes the terrible, and with it
a certain wonder, a certain pity." via IMDB<br />

Directed by William Friedkin, before The French Connection and The Exorcist...</div>
